The home is located in Richmond’s historic Fan District, one of the nation’s largest collections of Victorian architecture.
Vision: The owners had a taste for the unique and a love for contemporary as well as traditional items. Above all, they loved their book collection and wanted a unique way to display and celebrate their many volumes, as well as the interesting objects they have collected throughout the years.
Result: The need for an expansive shelving system became a unifying design element of the space, linking and drawing guests through the length of the home. Historic details of the home, such as the hall tree and historical case opening were left intact; however, the white shelves contrast with the elaborate wood trim, heightening the beauty of both elements, and appeasing the owners’ love of both modern and traditional aesthetic.
